Discover the Art Supplies We Use at Art for Kids Hub!
Today, I’m excited to give you a behind-the-scenes look at the art supplies we use in most of our drawing lessons. Whether you’re a seasoned artist or just getting started, understanding the tools we use can help you take your art to the next level.
Black Markers & Marker Paper:
We begin every drawing with a trusty black marker. It helps make our lines bold and clear, so there’s no need to worry about erasing. But did you know that the paper you use can greatly impact your art? That’s why we use Canson marker paper—it’s durable, perfect for layering and blending colors, and keeps our markers lasting longer. Regular paper often falls apart when you layer markers, so investing in good marker paper is a game-changer!
Alcohol-Based Markers:
Our Art for Kids Hub alcohol-based markers bring vibrant colors to life in our drawings. One tip I love to share is using a swatch page to help choose the right color, as the cap color doesn’t always match the marker color exactly. The swatch page ensures that the colors you choose are just right for your artwork.
Prismacolor Colored Pencils:
When it comes to colored pencils, Prismacolor is my top pick. These pencils are excellent for blending and layering, allowing for smooth transitions between colors. They may be a bit more expensive, but the quality is worth it, especially when you want to add highlights with the white colored pencil over marker colors.
Paint Markers:
Lately, we’ve added paint markers into the mix. These markers use acrylic paint, which allows for some really fun effects, especially when layering on top of other colors. The white paint marker is particularly useful for creating bright highlights that really make your drawings pop.
Pencil & Eraser for Advanced Lessons:
For some of our more advanced lessons, we start by sketching the basic shapes with a pencil and eraser. This helps us create accurate proportions before finalizing the lines with a marker. It’s a great technique for artists who want to refine their skills.
Gel Crayons for Younger Artists:
For our younger artists, we often use gel crayons. These are soft, smooth, and easy to use, making them perfect for little hands. We typically use regular printer paper for these lessons, which works just fine with gel crayons.
I hope this post has given you a deeper understanding of the art supplies we use at Art for Kids Hub. Remember, you don’t need the fanciest supplies to start creating—just grab what you have and have fun drawing!
Happy drawing, and see you in the next lesson!
