Colored Pencil Comparison + SYA (2/2/15)

It’s Monday, and even though our team lost, we’re excited for another week of art!

Last Monday we sent out an email, asking what art medium you would like to learn next. The majority of you asked for colored pencils…a close second was water color and water color pencils. So, we’ll begin using colored pencils very soon, but before we do we wanted to compare different brands/prices.

If you don’t already have colored pencils we hope this comparison helps your purchase decision.

Colored Pencil Comparison + SYA

Here’s a closeup of the comparison:

  1. Prang is a middle value, which is a good compromise between price and quality. Though, stay tuned for our Crayola review! (Affil. link to Prang colored pencils on Amazon)
  2. Prismacolor is the most expensive brand, but it is the best you can buy. Notice the blend between orange and purple (in the below image) doesn’t look muddy. Plus, the colors are dark and rich. (Affil. link to Prismacolor colored pencils on Amazon)
  3. This is the cheapest value (The Fine Touch), they’re not available on Amazon. I wouldn’t recommend buying the least expensive color pencils…but they are better than nothing 🙂 Notice colors are much lighter and there really isn’t any blending between colors.

If you have any questions feel free to leave a comment below. Also, stay tuned for our Crayola colored pencil review.
